YORK, Pa. - The York College field hockey team registers their third straight victory Tuesday night on the road against Goucher College. With the win the Spartans improve to 3-1 on the year while the host Gophers suffer their first loss of the season and fall to 3-1.
On a night where the York offense reigned supreme, sophomore forward Jillian Brezgel opened up the scoring attack with her first goal of the season in the eighth minute of play. Junior forward Sandee Reich tallied her second assist of the season on the play.
Reich also got in on the scoring action later in the first half as she knocked in her fifth goal of the season while receiving an assist from senior captain Colleen O'Rourke.
First-year transfer student Katie Blankenstein recorded the first two goals of her career with the Green and White. She scored the first with an assist from fellow defender O'Rourke, while her second goal came off a Spartan penalty corner with senior captain Brittany Simmons earning credit for the assist.
Simmons once again assumed her penalty corner duties and fed a pass to sophomore forward Kailey Brewer for her third goal of the season. In the final minutes of play sophomore Kirsten Bridgers knocked in a loose ball to register her first goal of the 2011 campaign.
For the third consecutive game York dominated both the shot and penalty corner margins. The Spartan offense racked up totals of 31-0 in the shots column and 22-1 for the penalty corners.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alanna Curtis picked up her second win of the season and registered yet another clean sheet as she improves to 2-0 in 2011.
The Green and White return to the friendly confines of Kinsley Field on Thursday to face the visiting Hornets of Shenandoah University. Game time is slated for a 4:30 pm start.
