Spartans Land Three on All-CAC Squad
YORK, Pa. – The York College field hockey squad received excellent news Thursday morning as a trio of Spartans were selected to the All-Capital Athletic Conference squad for the 2010 campaign. Katie Dawkins, Colleen O'Rourke, and Brittany Simmons were each chosen to the conference's second-team for their quality performances this season.
Dawkins, a senior forward, makes a return trip to the All-CAC list after being named a second-team choice following the 2009 season. This year, Dawkins tallied eight goals and seven assists for 23 points as she ranked second on the Green and White in goals and points while taking third in assists. For her career, the talented forward amassed 29 goals and 13 helpers. Dawkins recorded 71 points over her 76 games played, good for an average of nearly a point per contest.
O'Rourke picks up her first all-star selection after a stupendous junior campaign. A Spartan captain this season, the proved the backbone of York's defensive unit and was a catalyst for the Green and White throughout the year. O'Rourke stalled and thwarted numerous offensive attacks and helped the Spartans transition into offense. The junior defender also contributed heavily on the Green and White's offensive end as she registered two goals and a team-high nine assists.
Simmons also snags her first all-conference appearance following a quietly outstanding year. She tallied seven goals, which tied her for third on the Spartan squad, while also distributing a pair of assists. Furthermore, Simmons recorded four defensive saves as she proved to be in the right place at the right time on a consistent basis. A hard-working and unrelenting player, Simmons gave the Green and White a consistently tough presence on the field throughout the 2010 campaign.
These three choices increase the Spartan program's total to 55 All-CAC honorees since their first selections back in 1994.
