YORK, Pa. - The York College field hockey squad received outstanding news as both Katie Dawkins and Lydia Pirie secure Capital Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Week accolades as released by the conference office yesterday afternoon. Dawkins was named the league's Offensive Player-of-the-Week while Pirie, the Spartans' sophomore goalkeeper, garners the CAC's Defensive Player-of-the-Week nod.
Both players helped the Green and White to a terrific 3-0 week, a stretch which included a pair of come-from-behind victories. York bested Dickinson 3-1 at Kinsley on Tuesday before topping Wilson 5-1 again at home on Thursday. Saturday's jaunt out to CAC foe Frostburg proved a fruitful one as the Spartans returned with a 3-1 conference triumph.
Against Wilson, Dawkins provided the assist on Jillian Brezgel's game-winning tally just a mere seconds before the halftime whistle. Dawkins then added the Green and White's third tally of the contest with a goal in the 43rd minute.
In Saturday's conference tilt, Dawkins recorded the game-winner herself as her fifth goal of her senior campaign gave the Spartans a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.
Pirie had a tremendous week as she picked up victories in each of her first three collegiate starts. Filling in for the injured Maggie Schlauch, Pirie performed admirably throughout her 210 minutes in the cage this week.
She recorded a career high 12 saves in the 3-1 triumph over Dickinson as her goal was consistently pelted with shots throughout the contest. Pirie then totaled five saves over the Spartans' next two games (three against Wilson, two against Frostburg).
After last week's outstanding showing, York now sits at 8-5 on the season with a 3-3 mark in CAC play. The Green and White next visit Elizabethtown on Wednesday, October 13, in a 4:30 pm non-conference tilt.
