YORK, PA - Senior field hockey goalkeeper Claire Rekitzke (Seaford, Del./Seaford Senior) has been chosen as the latest Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week for the week spanning September 28 - October 4. Rekitzke led the Spartans to a 2-1 week, including a near-miss against #2 Salisbury.
Over York's three matches, Rekitzke delivered 24 saves while only allowing a trio of goals during her 187:02 minutes between the pipes.
The Spartan netminder stopped six attempts in York's 3-1 road victory over McDaniel on Monday before recording six saves yet again on Wednesday. Rekitzke played the game's first 47:02 and did not allow a score in the Green and White's 5-2 win at Albright as York posted its fifth-straight victory.
The senior's best performance however, came in a 2-1 loss to Capital Athletic Conference foe Salisbury at home last Saturday. Rekitzke held the potent Sea Gull offense, which had averaged 5.72 goals per game over their previous eleven contests, to a pair of first-half scores. Rekitzke's spectacular play resulted in 12 saves, including numerous point-blank attempts, over her 70 minutes.
Rekitzke and the Spartans return to action on Tuesday, October 6, as they travel to Carlisle, Pa. for a date with Dickinson College. Game time is slated for 4:00 pm.
