YORK, PA – York College field hockey senior goalkeeper Claire Rekitzke (Seaford, Del./Seaford Senior) has been selected to the 2009 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Senior All-Star Game. Rekitzke will join the 37 other seniors from a total of 30 institutions for the match which is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Sunday, November 22, at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass.
Only one of three players selected from the Capital Athletic Conference, Rekitzke has posted a fantastic senior campaign for the Spartans. She has started all 20 contests this year, as the Green and White finished the regular season with a solid 13-7 mark. The senior netminder has registered over 1,336 minutes between the pipes in 2009 as she sports a 1.68 goals against average.
“It feels incredible to have the opportunity to represent my teammates as well as the College at this level,” Rekitzke said. “It’s awesome to be recognized along with these other great athletes, and I’m excited to get to play with them.”
A four-year starter, Rekitzke has amassed over 5,222 minutes in goal for the Spartans while accumulating 490 saves – a mark that currently ranks second in program history. Additionally, she has registered a 2.36 goals against average for her career.
“It is wonderful to see Claire recognized for her outstanding play this season,” second-year Spartan head coach Jamie Swartz said. “She has done great work in the cage for us all year long. I am sure that Claire will represent us well in Massachusetts.”
Before that however, the Green and White have a Capital Athletic Conference tournament to attend to. The third-seeded Spartans open up with sixth-seeded Stevenson on Sunday, November 1, in a 1:00 p.m. tilt from York’s Kinsley Field.
