YORK, PA - Following a strong pair of matches during the week of October 12-18, York College senior goalkeeper Claire Rekitzke (Seaford, Del./Seaford Senior) captured Capital Athletic Conference Field Hockey Player-of-the-Week. Rekitzke led the Spartans to a 2-0 week, besting Elizabethtown 3-2 on Tuesday before topping CAC foe Wesley 1-0 Saturday evening.
Rekitzke's best performance came in York's league match against the Wolverines under-the-lights in Dover, Del. The senior netminder recorded eight saves on the evening while facing 17 shots from a potent Wesley offense. Her shutout bid gave Rekitzke her first 70-minute clean sheet of the year and more importantly provided the Spartans with a significant conference win.
York's triumph over Wesley pulls the Spartans into a tie for third place in the CAC as both squads now sport a 3-2 conference records.
Against Elizabethtown, Rekitzke notched four saves while only allowing a pair of scores over her 70 minutes of work.
For the year, the All-CAC goalkeeper has posted a solid 1.58 goals against average, which marks her lowest campaign average throughout her four Spartan seasons.
