Spartans Blank Former CAC Foe Goucher, 3-0
TOWSON, MD – The York College field
hockey squad captured a non-conference road victory Tuesday
evening, besting host Goucher 3-0 in an under-the-lights affair.
With the win the Spartans improve to 3-4 on the season while the
Gophers drop back to .500 at 4-4.
The Green and White opened the scoring in the 13th minute as
Allison Roush (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township)
registered her fourth goal of the season. Roush now sits one goal
behind team leader Katie Dawkins (Easton,
Md./Easton) who has posted five tallies in 2009.
Casey Lawrence (Abbottstown, Pa./Delone
Catholic) stretched York’s lead to 2-0 six minutes
into the second half. Lawrence’s unassisted tally not only
provided the junior with her first goal of 2009 but also gave the
Spartans a bit of breathing room.
York capped off their three-goal output in the 57th minute.
Megan Spangler (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon
County) combined with Heather Re (Hackettstown,
N.J./Hackettstown) for Re’s second goal of the
season. Spangler’s helper ties her for the team lead in
assists as she is now even with Roush at three.
For the game, the Spartans held a significant 19-7 lead in shots
including a 12-shot display in the second frame. York also posted a
13-2 advantage in penalty corners as the Green and White carried a
majority of the play.
Senior goalkeeper Claire Rekitzke (Seaford, Del./Seaford
Senior) garners the victory as she made a pair of saves
over her 62:55 of work. Rekitzke was relieved by Maggie
Schlauch (Breinigsville, Pa./Parkland) late in the second
half as the junior recorded a pair of stops including one on a
penalty stroke to preserve the shutout. Goucher starter Micki
Manheimer recorded ten saves on the evening as she played the
game’s first 64:09. Ellie Brown finished off the final 5:51
without surrendering a goal or registering a stop.
The Green and White return home on Thursday for a Capital
Athletic Conference clash with visiting Stevenson. Game time is
slated for 4:00 pm at York’s Kinsley Field.
