Swartz Returns to York as Head Field Hockey Coach
YORK, PA-York College Assistant Dean of Athletics and Recreation Sean Sullivan is happy to announce that Jamie Swartz has been selected as the new Spartan field hockey coach. Swartz replaces Megan Eckenrode who had led the field hockey program for the last two years of the program. Eckenrode resigned in June to pursue other professional opportunities at Dickinson College in Carlisle.
Swartz is no stranger to York College as she was a four-year starter for the Spartan from 1995-1998. She was a fearless player that helped lead the Spartans to 48 wins in four years including a 15-4 mark during her senior year. Swartz was a four-time All-Capital Athletic Conference player while she was also a two-time NFHCA all-region selection. She was selected to play in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Senior All-Star game in 1998 while she also earned Spartan team MVP accolades that same season. Swartz was recognized as the winner of the 1998-99 Georgia Heathcote-Stallman award winner, an award recognizing the outstanding senior female athlete at York College.
Swartz also got the job done in the classroom as she was a three-time NFHCA All-American Scholar. She graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. in Recreation Administration / Special Events.
Swartz returned to her alma mater as an assistant coach under former Spartan mentor Vicki Sutton from August of 1999 through April of 2001. The Spartans went a combined 22-10 and were nationally ranked in those two seasons with Swartz on staff.
She has also served as a USA Futures Field Hockey site director, a Future Stars Camp instructor, and also as the assistant field hockey coach at the Christian School of York during the 2002 campaign.
“I am very excited to get the opportunity to return to my alma mater,” says Swartz. “Many of my fondest memories of my years at York were with my hockey family or took place on the field of play. Getting the opportunity to guide the next generation of York College field hockey players is very exciting for me.”
Sullivan is happy to have Swartz on board.
“I am thrilled to have Jamie guide our field hockey program,”states Sullivan. “As an alum, she brings a high level of professionalism, enthusiasm and a dedication to York College and our field hockey program. Jamie was an outstanding player at York and her experience will help her guide this program to the next level.”
Swartz is looking forward to guiding the green and white.
“I expect us to be very competitive this year. We will work extremely hard in preseason camp and we will be very prepared for each day, whether it is practice or a game. My expectation is that everyday we will work to improve and get better. It is going to be a fun challenge for me and for the players.”
