Spartans Recognized for Academic Excellence
YORK, PA – The York College field hockey
team received outstanding news last week as the Spartans were
listed among the top 100 programs in the country for their academic
prowess during the 2008 campaign according to the National Field
Hockey Coaches Association. The Green and White achieved over a 3.0
grade point average while 12 Spartans were named to the NFHCA
academic squad.
A trio of All-Capital Athletic Conference
performers made the squad, which is awarded to those
student-athletes with a cumulative 3.30 GPA or higher, as senior
April McFarland (York, Pa./Eastern York), junior
Veronica Eltz (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic), and
junior Megan Spangler (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon
County) were each awarded for the academic excellence.
Katie Dawkins (Easton,
Md./Easton), Casey Knauss (St. Michaels,
Md./Easton), Kelly Kreamer (Ambler,
Pa./Wissahickon), Casey Lawrence (Abbottstown,
Pa./Delone Catholic), Stacey Miller (Lindenhurst,
N.Y./Lindenhurst Senior), Becky Reeves (Forest
Hill, Md./North Harford), Allison Roush
(Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township), Brittany
Simmons (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley), and Laurel
Sturner (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) were also
recognized by the NFHCA for their academic achievements.
A total of 61 student-athletes from the CAC made
the NFHCA academic squad as all seven schools were represented.
York ranked second in the league with 12 honorees while St.
Mary’s paced the conference with 16.
