Hanna Suspends Spartans Match at Elizabethtown
ELIZABETHTOWN, PA-The York College Spartan field hockey squad
battled the Elizabethtown College Blue Jays and tropical storm
Hanna on Saturday in Elizabethtown, PA. Both teams lost to Hanna as
the game was suspended with 14:52 remaining in the game. The Blue
Jays hold a 4-0 lead in the game that must be completed in order
for the game to be considered official.
The Blue Jays wasted little time in getting on the board in the
first as Katy Boone scored on an Andrea Miles assist just 2:24 into
the game. The hosts increased their lead to 2-0 just under 12
minutes later as Liz DeMatteis scored the first of her two goals in
the game. DeMatteis made the score 3-0 with 8:01 remaining in the
first half.
Hanna made her presence felt at the break as the game was delayed
for 55 minutes before the teams retook the field.
After the intermission, the Blue Jays pushed the lead to 4-0
when Megan Angstadt took a DeMatteis pass and put it home for the
goal 4:50 into the second stanza.
The teams were again forced to the sideline where there was
another delay that lasted 55 minutes. That final delay caused the
two teams to agree to suspend the action and pick it up at a date
to be determined on Sunday.
The Blue Jays hold a 19-1 edge in shots while the hosts also
hold a 12-1 bulge in penalty corners.
Spartan goalie Claire Rekitzke (Seaford, Del./Seaford
Senior) was again busy in goal as she recorded 10 saves in
55:08 of action. Blue Jay goalie Liz Hannegan faced just one shot
and was not forced to make a save in her 55:08 of work.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday afternoon as they host Hood College in their 2008 Capital Athletic Conference opener. Game time at Kinsley Field is set for 4:30 pm.
