Spartan Field Hockey Posts Third Best GPA in Division III
YORK, PA - The York College field hockey team
received great news this week as ZAG Field Hockey and the National
Field Hockey Coaches Association listed the Spartan squad has
having the third highest team grade point average among NCAA
Division III programs. The green and white sport a strong 3.46 team
GPA, which ties them for the third spot with Eastern
University.
“This is a great honor to be recognized for our hard
work in the classroom,” Spartan head coach Megan Eckenrode
said. “We not only have very good athletes but also very good
students.”
In addition to the team accolade, fifteen individual Spartans
landed on the ZAG/NFHCA National Academic Squad. Ashley Chance
(Easton, Md./Easton), Katie Cuff (Newton, N.J./Newton), Veronica
Eltz (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic), Catie Hare (Hanover,
Pa./Southwestern), Jami Hassler (Derwood, Md./Magruder), Casey
Knauss (St. Michaels, Md./Easton), Kelly Kreamer (Ambler,
Pa./Wissahickon), Casey Lawrence (Abbottstown, Pa./Delone
Catholic), April McFarland (York, Pa./Eastern York), Julie Reahl
(Eldersburg, Md./Liberty), Rebecca Reeves (Forest Hill, Md./North
Harford), Claire Rekitzke (Seaford, Del./Seaford Senior), Megan
Spangler (Myerstown, Pa./Eastern Lebanon County), Nicole Starner
(Aspers, Pa./Biglerville), and Chelsey Topper (Hanover, Pa./New
Oxford) were each named to the team for their tremendous efforts in
the classroom.
“It really is a great honor to have this many players
acknowledged for their academic abilities,” Eckenrode said.
“It is a tough challenge to be a collegiate athlete and also
perform well academically. I am very proud of each of them and the
team as a whole.”
