Spartans Fall to #4 LVC in Home Finale

YORK, PA - On a chilly October afternoon, the York College field hockey team could not cool off #4 Lebanon Valley as the now 13-0 Flying Dutchmen routed the Spartans by an 8-0 margin.  With the loss, the green and white fall to 5-12 while LVC remains perfect on the season with 13 wins in 13 games.

In the sixth minute, Danielle Blase gave the Flying Dutchmen a 1-0 lead with her eleventh tally of the campaign.  Catching the Spartans unaware, Alex Wolfe and Blase took off on a two-on-one fast break.  Wolfe carried the ball until she neatly slipped it to Blase for the finish.  Now up 1-0, the Flying Dutchmen never looked back.

Only 1:28 later, Wolfe and Blase combined once again with Wolfe finishing off the fast break.  Wolfe tallied her ninth goal of the campaign to put her squad up by two.

In the 28th minute, the Flying Dutchmen scored twice as Shauna Enck and Wolfe scored unassisted notches 41 seconds apart.  Mimi Sullivan ended the first half scoring with her tally in at 34:12 as she broke out by herself, outpaced the Spartan defense, and went in for her 12th score of the season.

Up 4-0 at the half, LVC had recorded 21 shots and four penalty corners while York was only able to manage one shot.

The second stanza was much like the first, as the Flying Dutchmen continued to control the match.  LVC tallied their final three scores all within a 5:08 span.  Wolfe, Sullivan, and Blase each tallied in the second frame, bumping their season totals to 12, 13, and 11 goals respectively.

For the match, LVC owned a 33-4 bulge in shots while also gaining a 9-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Spartan goalkeeper Claire Rekitzke (Seaford, Del. / Seaford Senior) takes the loss in net despite registering ten saves.  Rekitzke did perform well as she stoned several dangerous LVC offensive attacks.  Veronica Eltz (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) and Joan Shultis (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) also contributed in the saves category recording three defensive saves between the pair.  Caitlin Baro and Emma Taylor combined for the shutout in the Flying Dutchmen goal as neither was forced to make a save.

The loss concludes the regular season slate for the Spartan field hockey squad.  York takes to the road for their final three regular season matches traveling first to Wilson College on Thursday, October 18.  Game time is scheduled for 4:30 pm.
