How It Happened
• Salisbury got off to a quick start as they scored a trio of runs in the bottom of the first after the Spartans had retired the first two hitters of the game. The big blow was a Tom LaBriola double to left center to score the first two runs of the game. LaBriola came home on a Jack Perry RBI single through the left side.
• The Spartans got their lone run in the top of the second. Christian Bilan doubled to right center, moved to second on a ground out to second and scored on a wild pitch as York trimmed their deficit to 3-1.
• Salisbury had another two-out uprising in the bottom of the second as they tallied three more runs after the inning started with two outs. Justin Meekins walked on a 3-2 pitched that looked like it would end the inning and then Scott Ardoin made York pay with a two-run shot to left center. Pete Grasso followed with a solo shot as the lead grew to 6-1.
• After a quiet third inning, the Sea Gulls added two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to blow the game wide open. Salisbury kept their foot on the pedal with a single run in the seventh and three more in the eighth to provide for the final 14 run margin of victory.
The Spartans fall to 34-36 all-time in the CAC Tournament … York is now 3-18 all-time against Salisbury in the CAC Tournament … the 14-point deficit was the Spartans' largest margin of defeat in a Capital Athletic Conference Tournament game … the 15 runs are the second most ever given up by a Spartan team in the tournament (16 vs. Stevenson on April 17, 2009) … York has lost four straight in the CAC Tournament … York has been outscored by Salisbury 35-3 in their last two games (20-2 loss on April 15, 2017) … the Spartans have lost five straight games and nine of their last 12 … this is the fourth time that the Spartans have been the tournament's third seed … York is now 4-8 when being the third seed as they have lost five straight in that position ... the Spartans have not won a CAC Touranment title since 1999.
The Spartans will play nine non-conference games to wrap up the regular season. That stretch starts on Tuesday, April 25 when they host Montclair State University. First pitch from Jaquet Field is set for 4:00 pm.
