YORK, PA - With opening day of the 2014 season right around the corner, York College head baseball coach Mike Scappa has announced seniors Colbe Herr (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin), Andrew Hershey (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor), and David Walker (Hanover, Pa./South Western) as his team captains for upcoming season.
Herr is a three-year starter at catcher and one of the top backstops in the South Region. He is a multiple time member of the Dean's List as a sport management major.
"Colbe is one of those players who pushes himself and his teammates to strive for excellence each and every day," says Scappa.
Hershey is the Spartans starting centerfielder and leadoff hitter. He provides the ideal combination of power and speed at the top of the order in addition to ball hawking defense while patrolling the outfield for the Green and White. Hershey is a dean's list student who majors in nursing.
"Hersh is one of the guys who never stops working," says Scappa. "He never takes a moment for granted."
Walker will be one of the leaders of the pitching staff during his senior year. He has been a valuable member or the staff as both a starter and reliever during his career coupled with Dean's List performance in the classroom as a criminal justice major.
"David has a high degree of awareness both on and off the field," states Scappa. "He works extremely hard and is a tremendous model of what we expect from our Spartans"
The Spartans are slated to open the 2014 season on Sunday, February 23 at Lynchburg College. Game time is set for 1:00 pm in Lynchburg, VA.
