Frankenfield's Heroics Lift Spartans to Late win over Immaculata

YORK, PA – The York College baseball squad tallied a come-from-behind 6-5 victory over Immaculata University in a non-conference contest at a beautifully warm Jaquet Field on Tuesday afternoon.

York improves to 14-13 overall while the Mighty Macs fall to 10-12 overall. The Spartans have won seven of their last nine contests to climb above .500 for the year.

The Mighty Macs jumped on the Spartans early with two runs in the first and one more in the second to seize the early 3-0 lead. York rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the second as Drew Frankenfield (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) scored the first run with an RBI ground out and senior Nic Long (North Wildwood, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) drove in the second with a booming RBI double to left center.

York tied the game at three on a Derek Pitzer (York, Pa./Dallastown) RBI ground out to first, scoring senior Dustin Worthman (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) in the bottom of the third.

The Mighty Macs took a 4-3 lead in the fifth as Matt Hardy reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and scored on a Michael Lascomb single to right. The Mighty Macs would load the bases but Spartan reliever Zach Philippi (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) got out of the ensuing bases loaded jam with a strikeout as the Spartan deficit was only one.

The Spartans took their first lead of the game in the sixth as Adam Bartholomew (Haddonfield, N.J./Bishop Eustace) ripped an RBI single to right followed by an Andrew Hershey (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) sacrifice fly as York took the 5-4 advantage.

Immaculata tied the game in the eighth on a squeeze play but closer Mike Sarecky (Brookeville, Md./Sherwood) got the final two outs of the inning to preserve the 5-5 tie.

The Green and White got the eventual game winning run when Frankenfield stroked a triple off the wall in deep right center and scored two pitches later as Mighty Macs reliever Joseph Caria uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Frankenfield to slide across the plate with the tie-breaking run.

Sarecky retired the Mighty Macs in order in the ninth to pick up his second win of the year.

Seven different Spartans had a base hit in the game with Frankenfield, Hershey, Pitzer, Long , and Bartholomew each picking up RBI in the win. Frankenfield scored twice for the Green and White.

Patrick Boulware led the Mighty Macs as he was 2-for-2 before departing the game with an injury. Hardy was 1-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Joe DiGiaimo also had two hits and an RBI for Immaculata.

Alexander allowed six hits in the no-decision. Philippi tossed 2.2 innings, allowing a run on a hit with one strikeout, one walk, and one hit batter. Sarecky pitched a perfect 1.2 innings as he struck out three as he improves to 2-1.

Caria was saddled with the loss as he tossed the final two innings, allowing the run on one hit. John Ryan gave the Mighty Macs a good start as he tossed six innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on six hits with a walk and a strikeout.
