#6 Salisbury Sweeps Spartans in CAC Opener
SALISBURY, MD – The sixth-ranked Salisbury University Sea Gulls swept the York College Spartan baseball squad in a Capital Athletic Conference twin bill in Salisbury, MD on Saturday. The Sea Gulls won game one 6-2 and completed the sweep with a 6-3 win in the nightcap.
The Sea Gulls improve to 12-2 overall and 2-0 in the CAC while the Spartans fall to 5-6 overall and 0-2 in the league.
The Sea Gulls jumped on top with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second as the Spartan defense committed three errors in the frame. York tied the game in the fifth on an RBI ground out by Drew Frankenfield (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon). The Green and White left the go-ahead run stranded at third as Sea Gull starter Andrew Levy got strike out and a fly out to end the York threat.
Salisbury took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth courtesy of four runs on five hits.
Levy earned the win as he allowed just two runs on eighth hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in a complete game effort. He improves to 4-0 with the win. In the nightcap, Salisbury got all they needed in the first two innings as they got three runs in the first and three more in the second to sprint out to the 6-0 lead.
The Spartans got three back in the top of the fifth but it would be too-little-too-late. Andrew Hershey (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) had a two-run triple in the frame and came around to score on a Salisbury error.
