HARRISONBURG, VA – The York College baseball team dropped a 6-1 decision at Eastern Mennonite on Saturday afternoon in Harrisonburg, VA. The Spartans are now 9-17 overall while the Royals improve to 9-22 overall.
The Royals jumped on Spartan starter Brandon Ullom for two runs in the bottom of the first despite only picking up one base hit in the inning as a walk and a hit batter set the two-run single from Beau Banglesdorf.
The Spartans trimmed their deficit in half in the top of the third as junior Steve Tretter walked, advanced to second on a ground out, to third on another ground out before Devin Harbold plated Tretter with an RBI single.
The Royals added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings before tallying two runs in the bottom of the eighth to provide for the final 6-1 score.
Andy Richter went the distance for the Royals as he allowed a run on eight hits with eight strikeouts and one walk. He improves to 2-6 with the victory.
Ullom suffered the loss as he allowed two runs on one hit with a walk and a strikeout in 2.0 innings of work. Ullom falls to 1-3 with the loss. Freshman Tyler Alexander had a solid outing in relief of Ullom as he tossed four innings, allowing a run on one hit with two walks and three strikeouts.
The Royals scored their six runs on just five hits as the Spartans committed three errors in the game. Chris Harpine was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Banglesdorf was 1-for-3 with two RBI while BJ Mortimer was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Harbold had a big game for the Spartans, collecting three of York's eight hits while he also had York's lone RBI. No other Spartan had more than one hit in the contest.
The Spartans return to action on Sunday as they close out their CAC regular season against Wesley at 2:00 pm at Jaquet Field. York then begins the CAC Tournament on Tuesday against an opponent and a site to be determined.
