YORK, PA - York College baseball right fielder Joe Doyle (Stewartstown, Pa./Red Lion) has been selected as the Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week for the week spanning April 5 - 11. Doyle posted a tremendous offensive performance as the Spartans went 2-1 against Capital Athletic Conference regular-season champion Salisbury.
Doyle led the Spartans to a series victory over Salisbury this week. He began with three hits, seven RBI, three runs scored and two home runs in the Spartans' record-setting victory at Salisbury. He then went 2-for-3 with two RBI, a home run, and a run scored in the Spartans' come-from-behind victory over the Sea Gulls on Saturday.
The right fielder finished the week hitting .455 against the CAC regular season champion Sea Gulls. He was 5-for-11 with nine RBI, four runs scored, a triple, and three home runs. He had 16 total bases and a slugging percentage of 1.455.
Doyle and the Spartans now officially begin their quest for the 2010 CAC Tournament Championship - which this season comes with an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. The Green and White start the league playoffs this Tuesday when they host Mary Washington in a 3:30 p.m. tilt.
