YORK, PA - York College right fielder Joe Doyle (Stewartstown, Pa./Red Lion) has been selected as the Capital Athletic Conference Baseball Player-of-the-Week for his outstanding performance during the Spartans' series win over league regular-season champion Salisbury this past week.
Doyle, whose play against the Sea Gulls also netted him Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week honors, led the Spartans to two wins in three games against sixth-ranked Salisbury. He was 5-for-11 for a .455 batting average with nine RBI, four runs scored, a triple and three home runs, while totaling an obscene 1.455 slugging percentage.
He had three hits, including two round-trippers, in a mid-week Spartan offensive explosion in Salisbury. Saturday, when the series moved to York, he was 2-for-3 with a homer in the Spartans' come-from-behind win that helped the Green and White claim the No. 2 seed in the 2010 CAC playoffs.
For the season, Doyle has started in 23 of York's 27 contests, has posted a .349 batting average, driven in 22 runs, and has hit four homeruns. His .602 slugging percentage currently ranks third on the York squad.
Doyle and the Spartans now embark on the 2010 CAC Tournament, which begins Wednesday, April 14. The Green and White host Mary Washington in the first game of the playoffs, as first pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
