Poff Named ABCA First-Team All-South Region

YORK, PA – York College senior baseball player Ryan Poff (York, Pa./Spring Grove) has been named to the 2009 ABCA All-South Region baseball team as announced on Friday afternoon. Poff was a first-team selection as an outfielder.

Poff, a four-time All-Capital Athletic Conference selection, closed his career out as one of the most prolific offensive players in York College history.

Poff ended his career as the Spartan career leader in hits (266) and total bases (402) while he ranks second in doubles (65), third in runs scored (171), and is tied for fourth in RBI (154). He finished with a career batting average of .385 in 691 at-bats. Poff had 17 home runs, 10 doubles, a .582 slugging percentage and a .428 on-base percentage. He also stole 23 bases in his 172 career games.

Spartan head coach Paul Saikia was pleased to see his senior centerfielder recognized.

“Ryan was a very special player for us for four years,” states Saikia. “It is great to see his accomplishments recognized this way. He is obviously, very deserving.”

Poff finished his senior year hitting .431 with 55 RBI, 45 runs scored, 24 doubles, and six home runs. He had 117 total bases, a .672 slugging percentage, and a .474 on-base percentage. Poff also was 8-for-9 in stolen bases for the year. His 75 hits ties him for fourth on the single-season list while his 24 doubles ties him with former Spartan All-American Matt Day for first in a single season.

Poff was one of five Capital Athletic Conference players on the first team while a total of eight CAC players made the three All-South region squads.
