Kyle Cook is another one of the Spartans’ seasoned sophomores as he got significant action as a freshman in 2008. Cook played in 37 games, earning a start in 30 of those contests. He finished the year hitting .248 with 22 runs scored, 11 RBI and an on-base percentage of .336. Those are numbers the Spartan coaching staff expects to improve after Cook’s tireless retooling of his swing in the fall. Cook is physically stronger which will pay dividends as he hits in the upper half of the Spartan lineup, likely in the two spot. Where Cook plays defensively, which will be either second or third base, will depend on a few factors in the spring. Cook has shown the ability to be solid at either position as he posted a solid .932 fielding percentage in 2008. Cook is the son of Bob and Robin Cook and is a sport management major.
