Matt Austin enters his final year in the green and white as a dual threat for the Spartans. He will head the Spartan rotation while he will also get some at-bats for the Spartans as a designated hitter. On the mound, Austin went 4-3 with a 4.13 ERA as he made nine starts and threw 52.1 innings for York in 2008. For Austin’s career, he is 12-6 with a 3.31 ERA in 127.2 innings of work. He is a big, strong right-hander that throws a very heavy ball that leads to a high ground ball to flyball ratio. At the plate, Austin got limited at-bats last year as he battled an early season injury. He should have the opportunity to earn more extensive at-bats when not on the mound in 2009. Austin is the son of Bob and Sue Austin and is a business administration major.
