Spartans End Trip with 9-2 Loss
ORLANDO, FL-The York College baseball team concluded their 2008 spring trip with their third consecutive loss as the Spartans dropped a 9-2 decision to Rose-Hulman on Saturday morning in Orlando, FL. The Spartans conclude their trip with a mark of 1-7 while the Engineers improve to 6-3.
The Engineers struck for three runs in the first, two in the second, and two more in the third to put the game to bed early.
York cut the lead to 6-1 on a Mike Santoro (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) RBI single. The green and white got their second run in the top of the sixth on a Devin Harbold (York, Pa./West York) RBI ground out.
The Engineers got those two runs back in the bottom of the seventh on a Michael Kovacs two-run single.
Michael Matsui earned the win on the mound for Rose Hulman. He went six innings, allowing two runs on six hits while four strikeouts and one walk. Nick Maloney tossed two scoreless innings of relief while Sam Deters closed out the game with one scoreless inning of action.
Senior Tim Frisch (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock) started and was the first of five York pitchers. Frisch suffered the loss as he allowed five runs, four earned, on six hits in just two innings of work. He walked three and struck out one.
Offensively for the Spartans, Santoro was 3-for-4 with an RBI while freshman Cody Kaiser (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) came off the bench to to 2-for-3.
Keenan Long led Rose Hulman as he was 2-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored. Chandler Kent was 2-for-6 with a run scored while Kirk Thompson was 2-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored. Kovacs was 1-for-2 with three RBI.
The Spartans are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Salisbury to face the Sea Gulls in the Spartans’ CAC opener. First pitch is slated for 2:30 pm.
