Matt Austin enters his second year in the green and white as a key member of the Spartan rotation in addition to serving the Spartans as a designated hitter. Austin went 8-3 with a 2.75 ERA last year. He tossed 75.1 innings last spring as he made 12 appearances with 10 starts. Austin notched a team-high five complete games while he also had a shutout. At the plate, Austin hit .250 in limited at-bats during the year. He did notch seven RBI in his 28 at-bats. Austin will likely be the Spartans’ third starter, a role he flourished in last year. He does an outstanding job of mixing his pitches and gets a high ratio of ground balls. Austin is a business administration major and is the son of Bob and Sue Austin.
