Jake Hughes enters his third year in the green and white with a new role as he moves into the starting rotation after spending his first two years in the bullpen. Hughes, a tall and athletic lefty, has worked very hard on his mechanics and is primed to move into the rotation. Hughes, a Spartan captain this year, brings an intensity and drive to the mound that serves him well. Last year, Hughes went 1-1 in 16 appearances. He threw 22.1 innings and led the club in saves with four. Hughes has a live fastball that gets in on hitters quickly while he has worked hard to refine his off-speed pitches. Hughes is a business administration major and is the son of Mike and Deb Hughes.
