With the fall of 2017, Scott Guise begins his 23rd year at the helm of the York College Athletic Communications office. He is responsible for all the Athletic Communications aspects of the Spartans’ 23-team intercollegiate athletic program.
Guise graduated in May of 1995 from Bowling Green State University. He earned his degree in Sport Management with an emphasis on Sports Information. He also earned a minor in journalism while at BGSU.
Guise assumed his role at York in July of 1995. He is the second-longest tenured member of the athletic department, trailing only former baseball coach and current Assistant Dean for Athletics and Recreation Paul Saikia in service time at YCP.
Guise’s communications responsibilities include generating and managing publicity for the Spartans including media and public relations, and web services. Guise writes and designs athletic department press releases and publications, including game day programs and departmental brochures. He maintains the department’s web page and social media sites while he also serves as a liaison with local, regional and national media. Guise compiles, maintains and distributes statistics, photographs and historical information and records; nominates student-athletes, coaches and staff members for honors and awards; and manages and organizes the athletics communications staff, including a part-time intern, a number of work-study students and YCP sport management practicum students. He also works closely with the College Communications staff to enhance the athletic profile around campus and in the local community through general college publications.
In the summer of 2006, Guise contracted with Presto Sports to design and create www.ycpspartans.com, the comprehensive site for York College Spartan athletics. The site went through a major overhaul in the summer of 2010, allowing for better presentation of video and photography. The most recent version of the Spartan athletic website debuted in the fall of 2015.
Guise has been responsible for the nominating and publicizing 15 CoSIDA Academic All-America student-athletes. He has also nominated over 155 student-athletes for the annual academic awards. Guise has served as a voter for the D3Soccer.com national men’s soccer poll for the last nine years.
In the summer of 2013, Guise was elected to serve an At-Large term on the board of ECAC-SIDA. He attends the regional workshop yearly and had former student Derek Behrenshausen earn the Bill Esposito Memorial Award in June of 2013. Behrenshausen joined the Spartan staff in the spring of 2014 as the assistant director for Athletic Communications.
In addition to membership in ECAC-SIDA, Guise is also a member of CoSIDA.
While completing his undergraduate experience at Bowling Green, Guise served three years as a student manager for current University of Miami (Florida) head men’s basketball coach Jim Larranaga. He was responsible for assisting in all aspects of the Falcons’ men’s basketball program including traveling with the team during the season.
Guise resides in Red Lion, with his wife Jill, the assistant director of Athletic Communications at Johns Hopkins, and children Carly (18) and Shane (14).
