YORK, Pa. – York College women’s track & field standout Jasmine Smith has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week after a record-breaking performance on Saturday at the Greyhound Invitational hosted by Moravian. This marks Smith’s first Spartan Athlete of the Week award in her young career.
In just her freshman season, Smith set a new Spartan record in the 100-meter dash finals by finishing sixth with a time of 12.80, knocking off .02 seconds off her the previous program record set by Kenyatta Redman last season. She reached the finals by running a 13.00 in the preliminaries.
To add to her spectacular day, Smith garnered a first-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.45 meters (17' 10.75"). That distance ties the Spartan record she already set earlier this season on April 3.
Smith also combined with Donteris Spence, Laura Rowlands, and Deborah Fidele to register a new program-best in the 4x100 relay. The squad ran to a 50.72 time, besting the mark set the previous week of 50.88.
The Green and White’s next compete at the Penn Relays as well as Shippensburg’s Paul Kaiser Classic.
