YORK, PA – York College sophomore point guard Aja Wallpher (Ellicot City, Md./Seton Keough) has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week after leading the women’s basketball team to a pair of wins in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
Wallpher began her week with her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 assists in the Spartans’ 86-66 win over St. Vincent in the opening round of the tournament. Wallpher was 5-for-9 from the floor and 3-for-5 from the free throw line en route to the 13 points. She had just one turnover in her 39 minutes of action. Wallpher also had three rebounds and three steals in the victory.
Wallpher followed that with a game-high 11 assists and eight points in York’s 90-81 win over #15 Juniata. Wallpher was 4-for-7 from the floor as she also had three steals in her 35 minutes of play.
For the week, Wallpher averaged 10.5 points, 11.0 assists, 3.0 steals, and 1.5 rebounds in 37 minutes of play. She shot 56% from the floor while she committed just two turnovers for the weekend.
For the season, Wallpher is leading the nation in assists at 7.3 helpers per game. She is adding 6.2 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. She also leads the Spartans in steals with 96. Wallpher leads the Capital Athletic Conference in assists, assists per game, steals and steals per game. She earned first-team All-CAC accolades as announced last week.
