YORK, PA – York College is proud to announce that senior centerfielder Steve Tretter was named the York College Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 15, 2012.
Tretter led the Spartans to a 4-1 week including a three-game sweep of Mary Washington as the Spartans secured the two-seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament. Tretter hit .571 (12-for-21) with seven runs scored, four RBI, four doubles and a home run in his five games for the week.
He started the week with a 4-for-4 performance in the win over Elizabethtown as he narrowly missed a cycle on his last at-bat. He had a home run, a single, and a pair of doubles in the victory. After a 2-for-4 day at Messiah on Tuesday, Tretter went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI in the 7-4 win on Friday against the Eagles. Tretter then combined to go 3-for-8 with two runs scored and an RBI in the Saturday sweep of UMW.
For the season, Tretter is hitting .394 with 29 runs scored, 25 RBI, 16 doubles, two triples, and three home runs. He has a .599 slugging percentage and a .438 on-base percentage.
Tretter and the Spartans open the Capital Athletic Conference tournament on Tuesday afternoon when they host Stevenson University in an opening round contest at 3:30 at Jaquet Field.
