YORK, PA – York College is proud to announce that men’s soccer player Cody Pearson has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week ending on October 9.
Pearson, a junior defender from Crofton, MD and DeMatha Catholic High School, led the Spartans to a 1-1 week. The resurgent Spartans dropped a tough 2-1 loss to top-ranked Messiah College on Wednesday before bouncing back with an impressive 2-0 win over conference rival St. Mary’s.
Against Messiah, Pearson helped the Spartan defense limit the top ranked Falcons to just two goals as the Green and White was in the match for the entire 90 minutes.
Pearson was the key offensive cog on Saturday in the victory over the Seahawks as he notched a goal and assisted on the second goal for York.
His first goal came off a nice set piece in the game’s sixth minute. In the 83rd minute, Pearson lofted a beautiful corner kick that found the head of Taylor Brummitt who headed the ball home for the insurance goal. On defense, Pearson spearheaded a great effort that limited St. Mary’s to just seven shots in the contest.
For the season, Pearson is tied for the team-lead in goals with two while he also has two assists for six points, good for second on the squad.
