YORK, Pa. – On the heels of his national championships-qualifying performance on Saturday, York College men’s cross country sophomore Tim Hartung has been chosen as the Spartan Athlete of the Week.
At Saturday’s NCAA Mideast Regionals in Center Valley, Pa., Hartung traversed the 8,000-meter course in a tremendous 25:50. That outstanding time placed him ninth overall in a field of 309 participants, pushing him to the national meet.
Hartung, who has been spectacular for the Spartans all season, is the first York cross country runner to qualify for the NCAA National Championships in the history of the program. The standout sophomore, who won the 2011 Capital Athletic Conference Men’s Cross Country Championships, garners his second Spartan Athlete of the Week award as he also captured the honor on September 19.
Hartung is now set to travel to Winneconne, Wis. for NCAA National Championships on Saturday, November 19, hosted by UW-Oshkosh.
