YORK, PA – York College is proud to announce that sophomore women’s basketball player Kelsey Murphy has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week ending on November 27, 2011.
Murphy powered the Spartans to a pair of very different wins for the week. Murphy tallied 15 points in just 18 minutes in the Spartans’ 79-35 romp over Goucher on Tuesday. She was 6-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-5 from three. She also had two assists, a rebound and two steals in the win.
Murphy followed that up with 15 points, three rebounds, one assist, and one blocked shot in the Spartans 63-58 overtime win over Gettysburg on Sunday. The sophomore sharpshooter was 4-for-7 from three while she also knocked down three of her four free throw attempts.
For the season, Murphy is averaging 7.4 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. She is shooting 48.1% from the floor and 40% (8-for-20) from three. She has also handed out eight assists, grabbed five steals and recorded two blocked shots. Murphy is tied for second in the CAC in total three point field goals made.
Murphy is an elementary education major and is the daughter of Neal and Maureen Murphy.
