YORK, Pa. - Following his tremendous performance in the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament, York College men's soccer sophomore Taylor Brummitt has been selected as the Spartan Athlete of the Week.
During York's run to their third-straight conference tournament title, Brummitt notched a goal in each of the three contests including the game-winner in the championship match.
On Sunday, October 30, against Stevenson, Brummitt tallied his third of the season in the 14th minute of play. The Spartans had just fell behind 1-0, 36 seconds before Brummitt's tally. The sophomore then provided the assist on Cody Pearson's game-winner in the 57th minute to give York a 3-2 triumph.
Traveling to Mary Washington for the semifinal round on Wednesday, Brummitt found the back of the net yet again. With the Spartans leading 2-0, Mike Gill volleyed a ball into the Eagle penalty area. Brummitt proved in the right position as he redirected it off his head and into the goal for York's third tally.
In the championship match, Brummitt finished off a Chris Weaver assist just 2:36 into the contest. Weaver pulled a service back from the end line as Brummitt one-timed an attempt across the face of the Sea Gull goal and inside the far left post.
For the season, Brummitt has notched five goals and two assists.
Brummitt and the Spartans now turn their attention to the NCAA Tournament. The Green and White are slated to travel to the Christopher Newport pod in Newport News, Va. as they are slated to play DeSales in the first round.
