YORK, PA – York College is proud to announce that senior volleyball player Heather Bucher has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 25.
Bucher, an outside hitter for the Spartans, led York to a 4-1 week including a runner-up finish in the 2011 York College Spartan Volleyball Invitational this past weekend.
Bucher began her week with 10 kills, 15 digs, two assists, and three service aces in York’s 3-2 Capital Athletic Conference win over Marymount on Tuesday night. She followed that up with 11 kills, 12 digs, and five assists in the tournament opening win over SUNYIT.
Bucher continued her solid play with seven kills, 10 digs, four assists, and two service aces in the Spartans’ impressive 3-0 over Swarthmore in Friday’s second match. Bucher helped the Spartans advance to the championship game with four kills, six digs, three assists, and two aces in the easy win over Centenary on Saturday morning.
In the tournament championship game against CAC rival Salisbury, the Spartans’ senior captain was outstanding with a season-high 15 kills, 14 digs, and seven assists as the Green and White fell in four games.
For the week, the senior hit .230 for the week while she averaged 2.47 kills, 1.11 assists, 3.0 digs, 0.37 service aces, and 2.95 points per game.
Bucher is hitting .145 with 2.23 kills, 2.73 digs, 0.61 service aces, and a team-best 3.0 points per set. Bucher has accumulated 186 points for the year while she has added 79 assists for the campaign.
