Tim Hartung Named Spartan Athlete of the Week for November 11

YORK, PA – York College is proud to announce that junior runner Tim Hartung (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 11, 2012.

Hartung earned his second straight berth in the NCAA Division III National Championships as he finished fifth at the 2012 Mid-East Regional in Carlisle, PA. The junior was tenth midway through the race and maintained that slot until he used a great finishing kick to pass five runners over the final kilometer to earn the fifth place finish. His final time was 25:28.6 as he was two seconds out of third place and six seconds out of second place. Allegheny's Bobby Over won the event with a time of 25:09.6.

"Halfway through the race Tim looked really comfortable," said Spartan head coach Erick Camodeca. "There were five guys in front of him that were hurting at that point and I told him this was his chance. At the seven k mark, he kicked it in and really hammered home the finish."

Hartung will head to Terre Haute, Indiana for the national championship meet on Saturday, November 17, 2012.

Hartung is a Nursing major and is the son of Daniel and Barbara Hartung.
