Childres Chosen Spartan Athlete of the Week on October 31
YORK, Pa. – York College is pleased to announce that
junior men’s cross country runner Steven Childres has been selected as
the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week of October
24th-30th.
Childres, an entrepreneurship major from Ellicott City, Md.,
finished second at Saturday’s snowy Capital Athletic
Conference Championship meet held at York’s John Rudy Park.
He and teammate Tim Hartung crossed the finish
line together at 28:29. However, in the chip-timed event,
Childres was awarded second with a time of 28:29.30, only
two-hundredths of a second behind Hartung. His second-place
finish helped to lead the Spartan squad to their first CAC title in
program history.
For his efforts, Childres was named the CAC Men’s Cross
Country Athlete of the Year for his performance at the championship
meet and his leadership throughout his 2011 campaign.
"This serves to show Steve's outstanding leadership for this
squad throughout the year," head coach Erick
Camodeca said. "He really deserves this as he is such
a great leader for a squad full of freshmen and sophomores. I could
not be happier for him."
Childres and the Spartans now turn their focus towards the NCAA
Mideast Regionals, which will be hosted by DeSales University on
Saturday, November 12th. The race is slated to begin at
11:00am in Center Valley Pa.
