YORK, PA – York College is proud to announce that sophomore women’s soccer goalkeeper Melanie Glessner has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week ending on October 28, 2012.
Glessner added two more shutouts to her historic season as the Spartans recorded their sixth and seventh scoreless ties of the year. In a 0-0 tie with Catholic on Wednesday, Glessner notched a career-high 21 saves as she was peppered all game long by the Cardinals.
In the CAC first round tournament game against Wesley at Graham Field she tallied three saves. Not only did she contribute defensively but she converted the game-saving fifth penalty shootout attempt as the Spartans eventually earned a 7-6 advantage in penalty kicks to advance to the CAC semifinals.
Glessner remains ranked first in the NCAA in goals against average and save percentage. She extends her York College school record to 14 shutouts, one short of tying the Capital Athletic Conference single-season record. She has also been named the CAC defensive Player of the Week three times this year.
Glessner is a criminal justice and sociology major and is the daughter of Gaynor Robben and William Glessner.
