YORK, PA - York College is proud to annouce that senior women's basketball guard Katie Wagner has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week after leading the Spartans to a pair of wins this past week.
Wagner led the Spartans to a pair of Capital Athletic Conference wins while she also became the 15th Spartan in school history to reach 1,000 career points.
In the win over Wesley, Wagner tallied 18 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and three steals in a mere 24 minutes of play. With 7:32 left in the second quarter, Wagner hit a three from the top of the key to join the 1,000 career point club. Wagner was a highly efficient 8-for-10 from the floor including 2-for-3 from beyond the arc for her 18 points.
In the win over Southern Virginia, Wagner tallied a well rounded line of 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. She was 4-for-6 from the field and 2-for-2 from the stripe in her 27 minutes of action.
For the week, Wagner averaged 14 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 3.0 steals per game. She shot 75% from the floor, 66.7% from three and made both her free throws as York went 2-0 to remain in the top four with two weeks to go.
For the season, Wagner leads the Spartans in scoring at 13.8 points per game while she is also averaging 4.6 assists, 2.9 assists, and 2.3 steals per game. Wagner is shooting 52.3% from the floor, 26.8% from three and 75.3% from the free throw line.
