YORK, PA - York College is proud to annouce that women's soccer junior forward Maxine Herman (York, Pa./Dover) has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 23. Herman led the Spartans to a pair of Capital Athletic Conference victories this past week to earn the award.
Herman began her week with a natural hat trick to propel the Spartans to a road win at Wesley. Herman scored her three goals in a mere 10:07 to turn a 1-1 tie into a 4-1 Spartan lead. She started her three goal barrage as she collected a clear 20 yards out and fired a left footed chip shot into the upper left 90 for the eventual game winning-goal. Herman scored her second goal of the game in the 56th minute. She dribbled through the heart of the Wesley defense and drilled a shot from the 18 for the 3-1 Spartan lead. She concluded her natural hat trick with a goal in the 57th minute. Georgia Gillcrist blew past the Wesley defense on the right side. She hit a beautiful centering pass to Herman who finished the opportunity from 12 yards out to give the Spartans a 4-1 lead.
In the win over Salisbury, York scored the game's only goal in the 60th minute. Gillcrist hit a beautiful cross the found the foot of the streaking Herman. Herman finished off the chance inside the back post, giving York the 1-0 lead. The goal was Herman's team-leading sixth of the year.
For the week, Herman notched four goals on six shots for eight points. Herman put five of her eight shots on target and she recorded both of the game-winning goals for the Green and White.
Herman has 13 points on six goals and one assist in 16 games in 2016.
