YORK, PA - York College is proud to announce that senior field hockey player Sydney LaMarsh (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week after leading the Spartans to a 2-0 win over #17 Christopher Newport on Saturday.
LaMarsh spearheaded the shutout win over #17 Christopher Newport on Saturday in York. She was responsible for leading a defense that held the high-flying Captains to just four shots and two shots on goal for the entire match. Christopher Newport had not attempted less than 14 shots in any game this year until LaMarsh and the Spartan defense handcuffed them for the season low in shots. It was just the second time this year that the Captains had been shutout. They entered the game averaging 3.3 goals per game.
LaMarsh's defense has allowed the Spartans to garner a pair of shutout wins over nationally ranked teams this year. The Spartan defense has posted a pair of shutouts and have allowed just six goals in their last five games.
For the year, LaMarsh has a goal and an assist from her defensive position. Her goal came on a penalty stroke in the 3-2 win over Shenandoah.
