YORK, PA – York College is proud to announce that sophomore men’s soccer player Brendan Saberton (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week ending on November 18.
Saberton led the Spartans to a pair of wins for the week as York advanced to the NCAA Division III Sweet 16. Saberton tallied two goals in the Spartans’ come-from-behind 2-1 win over hosts Stevens in the second round of the tournament.
Saberton tied the game for the Spartans in the game’s 76th minute off a pass from Austin Johnson (Avalon, N.J./Middle Township).
Saberton then notched the game-winner just 33 seconds into overtime as the Spartans picked up the dramatic road win. Senior Tobi Iguade (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) fed a pass into the box and Saberton drove it inside the left post for the game-ending goal.
Saberton leads the Spartans with nine goals while he also has three assists for 21 points, the second highest total on the team.
Saberton is the son of Jim and Mary Saberton and is an undeclared major.
