YORK, PA – York College is proud to announce that sophomore attack Andrew Gamble (Easton, Md./Easton) has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week ending on April 27, 2014.
Gamble led the nationally ranked Spartans to a 13-9 win over #13 Mary Washington in the Capital Athletic Conference Semifinals. The win advances York to the CAC Championship game for the first time in school history.
Gamble finished with a team-high six points on a game-high five goals and one assist. He notched his five goals on just seven shots in the win over the Eagles.
Gamble gave the Spartans an early lead only to see UMW come back to knot the score at three. He then gave the Spartans the go-ahead goal, scoring the Spartans’ fourth goal of the first quarter to give York a 4-3 lead. He struck two more times in the second quarter as York led 10-4 at the break.
Gamble added his last goal of the day with 10:46 left in the fourth quarter.
For the year, Gamble leads the Spartans in scoring with 68 points on 49 goals and 19 assists. He has scored his 49 goals on just 91 shots, good for a 53.8% shooting percentage. He has notched seven game-winning goals for York and owns a team-high seven man-up goals.
Gamble is a public relations major and is the son of Joe and Mary Gamble.
