YORK, PA – York College is proud to announce freshman wrestler Ryan Flynn (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 5.
Flynn had a fantastic day at the F&M Open on Saturday in Lancaster. The Spartans’ 133-pounder finished fourth in the weight class at the loaded open tournament.
Flynn began his day with an 8-4 win over George Mason's Zachary Isenhour. Flynn then fell to Clarion's Tyler Fraley, the eventual weight class champion, 7-2, in the championship quarterfinals.
Flynn bounced back to pin Millersville's Kyle Loeb in a time of 6:41 in the consolation second round. Flynn then advanced past teammate Trevor Baez-Hernandez in a forfeit before posting a 5-2 win over Virginia's Emilio Martinez to advance to the consolation championship. Flynn fell to Binghamton's Nick Tighe in the final match, 13-7, as the freshman finished the primarily Division I & II tournament with a mark of 4-2.
Flynn is a mechanical engineering major and is the son of Steve and Christine Flynn.
